"In a world where sin is scientific and rumours of war have become reality, the gospel must be preached to the ends of the earth
These were the words of Southern Africa-Indian Ocean Division (SID) Communication director, Dr Pako Mokgwane, delivered at Edenvale Seventh-day Adventist Church during the Adventist World Radio (AWR) annual offering day.
Preaching to an overflowing congregation and broadcasting live on AWR SIDMEDIA, Mokgwane anchored his message in Matthew 28:18–20, calling the church back to the Great Commission. He urged members to go beyond the walls of the church, emphasising that door-to-door evangelism remains essential as the world awaits the soon return of Jesus.
"Jesus is coming again, and we have global errands to run". Expanding on verse 20, Mokgwane reminded the congregation that Christ's presence is not confined to the church walls; it extends into every corner of their daily lives, including social media.
"Christ is with you; every post you make, Christ is with you. Our social media accounts must reflect Christ" he charged both the congregation and AWR listeners tuned in across the region.
The sermon reached its climax with an altar call that moved seven people to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour, committing to begin baptismal classes the following week.
Meanwhile, Southern Africa Union Communication director Pastor Thulani Mkhize led the Sabbath School programme, where he highlighted the work of AWR across the territory and encouraged members to support the mission through donations and active participation.
The live broadcast concluded with a panel discussion facilitated by AWR SIDMEDIA host Dereck Viriri, where participants examined the relevance of mission in today's world and explored how modern mission tools and resources can be harnessed to advance the gospel beyond traditional boundaries.
At Pioneer Seventh-day Adventist Church in Pretoria, SIDMEDIA technical manager Noel Sibanda gave the congregation a live demonstration of a radio broadcast setup, bringing the behind-the-scenes work of AWR SIDMEDIA to life and sharing how the ministry is reaching souls across the region.
Across the border in Zimbabwe, AWR presenter Malven Makichi visited the Harare Chinese Mission, sharing the story of AWR's reach and exploring how radio can be leveraged to bring more people to the gospel. Head elder Elder Tawanda Chingarande affirmed that the Great Commission from Matthew 28 is what drives the congregation to take the gospel to Chinese nationals residing in Harare.
From Edenvale to Pretoria to Harare, the AWR annual offering day was a vivid reminder that the mission of the church knows no borders. As technology continues to open new doors, on air, online, and in communities, the Adventist World Radio ministry remains committed to ensuring that every soul, in every language, in every corner of the earth, has the opportunity to hear the good news of Jesus Christ's soon return.
