The Bible Study Guides division at the Southern Africa Union Conference (SAUC) of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, plays a vital role in nurturing spiritual growth among church members across the region. Operating under the broader Communication Department, the division is responsible for the production, distribution, and translation of the Adult Sabbath School Bible Study Guides used in weekly Sabbath School classes and for personal home devotions.
The guides are primarily sourced from the General Conference and published through the Southern Publishing Association — the official Seventh-day Adventist publishing house serving Southern Africa. Recognising the region's rich linguistic diversity, the department oversees translation of the English source text into five indigenous and regional languages, namely Sesotho, isiXhosa, Tshivenḓa, isiZulu, and Afrikaans, ensuring that every member can engage with Scripture in their heart language. Recently in the Namibia Ministry Tour, new languages have been identified to reach more people groups.
The department's mission aligns with the SAUC's broader calling: to call all people to become disciples of Jesus Christ and to prepare the world for Christ's return. Through contextualised, culturally relevant study materials, the department equips believers to deepen their understanding of the Bible, strengthen doctrinal foundations, and foster community within local churches.
Ongoing efforts focus on improving localisation strategies — adapting content to meet both the cultural and linguistic needs of diverse congregations — making the Bible Study Guides an indispensable tool for evangelism and discipleship across Southern Africa
